Metro Vancouver Transit Police is a police service created under the South Coast British Columbia Transportation Authority Police Service Designation Regulation and the Police Act of British Columbia. It is a police force like any other municipal or provincial police service and is responsible for policing Metro Vancouver’s public transit system.
Transit Police officers are sworn peace officers with the same core law enforcement powers as other police officers in British Columbia. Their authority is derived from both statute—including federal and provincial legislation—and the common law. This enables them to investigate offences, make arrests where authorized by law, preserve the peace, protect life and property, and enforce laws on and in relation to the transit system.
