Burnaby Woman Sues Transit Police Over Alleged SkyTrain Takedown
A woman sues Metro Vancouver Transit Police, TransLink and SkyTrain after alleging she was tackled and handcuffed by officers at Lougheed SkyTrain Station in Burnaby in 2022 over an unpaid fare.
Dahlia Colaric claims she suffered injuries to her foot, ankle and knee, as well as bruising and psychological and emotional harm. She is seeking damages for pain and suffering, lost income, future care and other costs.
The lawsuit alleges assault, wrongful arrest, negligence and Charter violations, while also naming four officers identified as John Doe. Colaric claims the officers had no reasonable grounds to detain or arrest her.
The allegations needs to be proved in court. Transit Police confirmed Colaric was not charged but received a $173 fare infraction notice.
